PLEXR & Nano Plasma Soft Surgery may be the answer you’re looking for.
This groundbreaking new treatment is taking the world by storm. It uses plasma technology to remove and tighten excess eyelid skin – through a safe and effective process called sublimation – without damaging the delicate underlying structures of the eyelid.
PLEXR & Nano Plasma is a simple, safe and comfortable treatment that involves no scalpels or suturing. It has a quick recovery period and carries no major risk – unlike surgical blepharoplasty – yet produces outstanding results that you would normally only expect with surgery.
Many surgeons and doctors worldwide are now using PLEXR & Nano Plasma as their preferred method of removing excess eyelid skin, and many patients are now talking about the benefits of this simple yet effective treatment.
Dr Strawford was one of the first doctors in the UK to adopt this new technology and has performed many non-surgical blepharoplasty procedures since its launch here in 2015.
The plasma device creates a tiny beam that, when it hits the skin, causes immediate sublimation of the skin in that area – in other words, it turns the skin cells from their solid state into a gas.
When applied to the excess skin, the plasma energy has an immediate effect, literally vaporising it away while visibly tightening the remaining skin tissue.
The treatment is performed without the need for a general anaesthetic, or cutting or suturing of the eyelids, and it leaves no scars afterwards.
The procedure offer similar results as traditional blepharoplasty surgery, but with quicker recovery and avoiding many of the significant risks associated with surgery (which can include blindness).
What happens during the PLEXR & Nano Plasma treatment?
Before you have the PLEXR & Nano Plasma treatment, Dr Strawford will assess the degree of laxity and amount of skin that needs to be removed to achieve the best results.
We apply a topical anaesthetic cream to numb the treatment area. This normally takes effect in 30 to 45 minutes.
When the skin is numb, we start the treatment using the small PLEXR & Nano Plasma device. As the PLEXR & Nano Plasma is applied, the sublimation process causes the immediate contraction of the skin in the treated area.
With each treatment, Dr Strawford carefully and precisely removes only the excess skin, leaving the surrounding healthy skin unaffected.
Depending on the amount of skin laxity, you may need a course of between 1 and 4 PLEXR & Nano Plasma treatments to achieve a full correction.
Is the treatment safe?
PLEXR & Nano Plasma and plasma technology has been used worldwide for several years, with no significant adverse events.
Compared to conventional surgical blepharoplasty – which carries significant risk of scarring, eyelid dysfunction (from too much skin PLEXR & Nano Plasma treatment has been shown to be very safe and equally effective.
As with any procedure, there is a small risk of developing an infection in the treated skin. If this does happen, we will give you an antibiotic ointment that you can apply to the affected area.
Does the treatment hurt?
The local anaesthetic cream applied before the treatment should minimise any discomfort from the procedure.
Some patients report a tingling or hot sensation at times during the treatment, but this should not be painful.
Are there any side effects?
Immediately after the treatment, you will probably notice some redness and swelling in the treated area, which may also feel hot and tender. This can vary from person to person, but usually settles in the first few days following treatment, occasionally lasting up to a week.
You may want to take a simple analgesia (such as ibuprofen or paracetamol) and apply a hydrocortisone cream to reduce any discomfort or swelling.
In the week after treatment, small brown dots of carbon crusts will be visible where the skin has been treated and is healing.
For most patients, these carbon crusts fall off within 5 to 7 days. You should avoid touching the carbon crusts and allow them to fall naturally. You can, however, conceal them using oxygenating post-procedure foundation: we recommend Oxygenetix™ for this, which you can buy from the clinic following your treatment.
After 5 to 7 days, when the carbon crusts have fallen off, the healing skin will be slightly pink. You can easily cover this with a simple, mineral-based make-up.
However, we recommend continuing with the Oxygenetix™ foundation, as it provides optimum skin healing as well as the UV protection needed to minimize the risk of pigmentation.
Other possible side effects
The risk of developing hyper or hypopigmentation in the treated areas is small, but more likely if these areas are not protected from excess UV exposure after treatment.
This is more common for people with darker skin, but in most cases it should resolve itself in time.
What is the downtime after PLEXR & Nano Plasma treatment?
Most patients return to normal activities within the first week after a PLEXR & Nano Plasma treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
After each treatment the visible contraction of the skin continues to improve over the following 2 to 4 weeks.
Depending on the amount of skin laxity present at the time of the first treatment, you may need further treatments at intervals to reach the desired effect or full correction.
Treatment sessions are usually undertaken at intervals of between 4 and 6 weeks, or longer if needed.
At your initial consultation, Dr Strawford will be able to advise you of the likely number of treatments you will need.
How long do the effects of PLEXR & Nano Plasma last?
The results from PLEXR & Nano Plasma non-surgical blepharoplasty typically last for the same amount of time – several years – as traditional blepharoplasty surgery.
But as with surgery, the duration of these benefits are influenced by your ageing process and lifestyle.
We can advise you on skincare regimes and other treatments to help maintain the benefits of your PLEXR & Nano Plasma treatment.
Is PLEXR & Nano Plasma cost-effective compared to surgical blepharoplasty?
PLEXR & Nano Plasma treatments start at £395.
Even with a course of PLEXR & Nano Plasma treatments, this is likely to be at least half the cost of surgery.
What other conditions or areas of the body are suitable for PLEXR & Nano Plasma therapy?
Other than eyelid surgery and the correction of under eye bags, PLEXR & Nano Plasma therapy is an effective treatment for the following:
- crows feet and smile lines around the eyes
- forehead lines
- smokers or lip lines
- stretch marks
- small skin lesions and warts, especially around the eyes
- scars and keloids
- acne
- belly button lifting.
