The importance of pelvic floor exercises before, during, and after pregnancy is something most women know all about, but what happens when exercise doesn’t help the unwanted symptoms of post-pregnancy urinary incontinence?
Sadly, post-pregnancy incontinence is a common condition which is often hidden and not talked about. If you see an NHS professional, the treatments available can be limited. If you’re lucky, you will be referred to a pelvic floor specialist physiotherapist, but most women will simply be told “leaking urine is normal after childbirth” and “wear a pad”.
What are the symptoms of post-pregnancy incontinence?
During consultations with patients, we hear all sorts of stories from ladies suffering in silence from unwanted symptoms.
Many women can’t play with their children, dare not cough, laugh, sneeze, or jump for fear of wetting themselves. Their vagina doesn’t ‘feel right’, and they feel like they have lost control of their bodies. Quality of life is impacted as managing the urinary symptoms takes over daily life, not to mention juggling everything else that comes with being a new parent.
At Skin Excellence Clinics, we want to reassure women that ‘it doesn’t have to be like this’.
How can we treat post-pregnancy incontinence?
You will be happy to hear doctors at Skin Excellence Clinics take women’s health and quality of life seriously.
We have reviewed evidence-based medicine published by esteemed urogynecology colleagues from around the world and have invested in Inmode’s EMPOWER RF system, which is proven to improve urinary incontinence.
We recommend VTone, an electrical muscle stimulator for the pelvic floor, 6 weeks post-delivery. This retrains the pelvic floor muscles, helps contraction of the vaginal canal, and gives women control back of their bladder.
VTone Case Study: Gina
Gina has had three children (one vaginal birth and two by c-section) was waking 4-5 times per night to pass urine, couldn’t drive anywhere without planning where the toilets were for the journey, and was scared to drink in case she had accidents. We treated Gina with VTone and the improvement has been so vast that after just two sessions, Gina reported only needing to wake once a night instead of the 4-5 times! The recommended course is six treatments, so we will complete this and report back to you all how she gets on.
What other symptoms can Empower RF relieve?
EmpowerRF is a game changer for women’s health. The multi-functional platform delivers procedures such as Morpheus8V, VTone, Tone, FormaV and AVIVA which enables us to administer life-changing therapies for a variety of conditions, and we are very proud to be one of the few and first clinics in the UK to offer the solution with doctors who are qualified to perform the therapies as well as having trained other clinicians in the procedures.
As well as post-pregnancy incontinence, EmpowerRF can be used to treat issues such as the following:
- Change in intimate physical appearance, for example a deterioration in skin laxity
