When we treat people suffering with fine visible veins and vascular blemishes using Thermavein technology, we are using a technique called thermo-coagulation to permanently get rid of the problem. The process is fast, effective and doesn’t risk causing scarring. The Thermavein technology works by introducing a fine needle above the vein which then delivers a pulse of energy. This release of energy gently joins the walls of the vein together making it disappear instantly in most cases. This process is repeated along the length of the veins visible until they have disappeared. Because this process is so localised, there is no removal of pigmentation, no bruising and no scarring. Patients can walk in, have this treatment done and walk out again without needing to worry about sun exposure or troublesome aftercare. At Skin Excellence Clinics we primarily use this treatment to remove veins from people’s faces but we can use it on any part of the body for both men and women, where there are troublesome small veins.

What happens during the treatment?

After a consultation with Dr Strawford, he applies the single use insulated needle to the treatment area which delivers the low frequency radio waves which cause the walls of the vein to stick together. This process is repeated along the length of the vein before moving on to other veins as required. The treatment is very quick and you will see effects immediately.

Will it cause any immediate swelling or redness?

There is no swelling or redness.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment time will depend on how many veins you would like removed and how long they are. It is generally a very fast procedure. 30 minutes is a typical treatment session.

Is the treatment painful?

There is minimal discomfort with no need for anaesthetic.

How many treatments will I need?

Usually, only one treatment is needed, but larger veins may need a second treatment.
