Ways to Improve Ageing Around the Eyes

The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and most delicate part of your body and is on average 1/9th of the thickness of the rest of your skin. Your eyes work so much throughout the day, which means they become the most prone to damage. They’re also usually the first place that people show signs of ageing with fine lines, wrinkles, and crow’s feet most commonly.

We all get wrinkles one day, they develop over time due to losing collagen in the skin, however, there are ways to prevent or slow down signs of ageing around the eyes. In this blog, we outline our best treatments to improve ageing around the eyes to help you find the best solution.

Use Quality Skin Care Treatments – ZO Skin Health

A thorough skincare routine is always beneficial, especially when you prioritise the skin surrounding your eyes. Investing in anti-ageing products for your eyes can help to reduce the signs of ageing, as well as the appearance of dullness, fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, uneven skin tone, and loss of your natural hydration.

At Skin Excellence Clinics, we champion ZO Skin Health products. They are designed and known for being the best products for ageing skin as they address and tackle the signs and triggers in every ageing phase. Only high-quality ingredients are used for optimal results, including retinoids, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, and much more.

The best ZO products to improve ageing around the eyes include:

  • Growth Factor Eye Serum – This serum helps improve the appearance of creasing, hollowness, tired eyes, and expression lines. It’ll also help improve hydration, eye skin vitality, and visibly improve volume.
  • Intense Eye Crème – Helps to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles, as well as protection against free radical damage and optical light diffusers that reflect light to minimise imperfections.
  • Eye Brightening Crème – A crème that targets dark circles, minimises fine lines and reduces the appearance of puffiness. This product also helps to support skin elasticity.

Using quality products like these to fight ageing will provide the results you’re looking for, as well as the benefits of long-lasting healthy skin due to their ability to optimise cellular function and slow down (and sometimes even reverse!) signs of ageing.

Non-Surgical Eye Lift & Treatments

Another way to improve ageing around the eyes is to consider taking the non-surgical route. There are several options that we offer at Skin Excellence Clinics, including:

1. Botox

Botox is one of the most popular procedures as it’s gentle and long-lasting. Botox is a great way to improve ageing around the eyes and the treatment takes very little time to carry out. The muscles that contract and cause wrinkles around the eyes are targeted, helping to relax the muscles in your face to smoothen out any lines and wrinkles.

“I have slight hooded upper lids and for years now the Botox I’d been having has always caused my eye lids to droop further and feel heavy. I have been told by previous practitioners that it’s unavoidable due to my upper lids being on the heavy side, until I met Dr Strawford – He knew what the problem was as soon as I walked into the room. He has managed to give me a slight brow lift, giving a more youthful appearance as well as allowing some movement to my forehead and brows for a natural look. He listened to my concerns, explained everything in depth to me, told me realistic expectations AND he delivered!

May I also add how very friendly the staff are too. They make you feel really comfortable and a valued person. The clinic is very clean, warm and welcoming.

Thank you very much.”

2. Dermal fillers

Tear trough treatment to improve under eye hollows. Combined with PLEXR plasma therapy to tighten eyelid skin laxity.

Dermal fillers improve the appearance and volume of lines and wrinkles and are great for reducing signs of ageing around the eyes. There are many dermal fillers but at our clinic, we only use products we know will have long-term results and are the safest, including Maili and Teosyal. We only use dermal fillers that contain non-animal hyaluronic acid which is a natural substance we have in our bodies that keeps our skin soft and hydrated. This is an area that requires skill and expertise, so it’s essential that you find a doctor with plenty of experience.

Our fillers have an outstanding safety record, and the procedure usually only takes 30-60 minutes. Results are immediate and can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months, sometimes longer, depending on the type of dermal filler used.

3. AccuTite

AccuTite is a treatment that offers accuracy and precision for delicate areas of the skin where only a needle-sized incision is made using a cannula to contour the face. AccuTite is great for the eye area, can target malar bags and lift brows. It’s an advanced and minimally invasive radiofrequency technology without the costs, downtime and associated risks that come with regular surgery. Heat energy is used in the target area to contract fat and stimulate collagen production, with long-lasting results for up to five years.

4. Morpheus8

Before and after Morpheus8 around the eyes

Morpheus8 is a world-renowned skin and body treatment that stimulates collagen production and redefines the contours of the skin. The treatment uses radiofrequency energy through micro-needles to penetrate tissues deep inside the skin to stimulate collagen and trigger the body’s natural healing response. The treatment is suitable for several areas of the body and is very effective at improving ageing around the eyes with minimal pain and discomfort.

The results for Morpheus8 are long-lasting and appear gradually over the course of 3-4 months. Depending on the patient, more than one treatment may be required.

5. Tixel

Before and after Tixel treatment around the eyes

Tixel is a procedure effective for treating a range of skin problems, from acne to coarse skin, sun damage, eye bags, wrinkles, and lines. At our clinic, we have a Tixel machine that uses heat to stimulate the skin’s healing reaction to encourage skin cell turnover and stimulate collagen production. There’s minimal pain and discomfort as numbing cream will be applied to the skin first. The treatment is quick and easy for those wanting to reduce signs of ageing in the eye area.

Tixel has different settings to achieve different results, from gentle to strong. Using a small, heated metal plate, heat is applied to the skin very quickly and is often painless because the skin’s nerves don’t have time to register it. However, Tixel can cause redness and swelling for several days.

6. PLEXR & Nano Plasma Soft Surgery

Before and after Nano Plasma & PLEXR around the eyes

We often perform PLEXR & Nano Plasma Soft Surgery which is the non-surgical blepharoplasty alternative. This treatment works well for hooded eyes and eye bags, deep lines, and heavy brows, using plasma technology to target excess eyelid skin. The plasma device uses a very small beam to turn skin cells from their solid state into gas, vaporising and tightening skin tissues almost immediately.

We apply numbing cream to the skin before and after the procedure to prevent any pain or discomfort. The recovery period can last up to seven days, and some patients may experience redness, swelling, and crusty eyelids, but overall, PLEXR is a very safe and effective treatment with results that last for several years.

One of the first doctors in the UK to use this plasma technology is our very own Dr Strawford and he has performed hundreds of the procedures since the launch here in 2015.

There is a broad range of treatments that target ageing around the eye area. Some of the procedures overlap in what they achieve, so it’s vital that you book a consultation so that we can properly assess your skin and find the correct treatment. Many clinics only offer one of the above treatments for the eyes, but Skin Excellence Clinics offers a wide range of procedures so that we can treat complex and delicate areas of the face successfully.

You can book your consultation today by calling us on 0800 298 2391. We have clinics in Plymouth and Wells that provide the highest quality, safest, non-surgical treatments in the South and South West.
